FTTX Handheld Connector Polisher from Krell

krellproton.jpgKrell Technologies has introduced a handheld fiber optic connector polisher that is specifically designed for FTTx field installations.

Proton has been conceived for true hand-held operation. Connectors can be
loaded, polishing pressure set and films changed-out without the need of a
table, workbench or external support. Proton can polish connectors sideways and at most orientations, permitting access to cabling in the tight confines of wire closets, cross-connects and fiber nodes.

32 Channel PLC ROADM from Optun

OE Solutions SFP Transceiver Product Line Expanded

oesolutions.jpgOE Solutions America, Inc., a supplier of optoelectronic transceiver solutions for optical communications, has announced the expansion of its Bi-directional single fiber SFP Transceiver portfolio.

Earlier in the year OE Solutions announced the introduction of the OBT12SLX product family which addressed the IEEE 802.3ah Ethernet in the First Mile (EFM) Standard, supporting 1000BASE- BX10-U for 10km upstream applications over a single strand of singlemode fiber. The product offering has now been expanded to include Fast Ethernet, OC-3, Gigabit Ethernet and 1Gb FibreChannel interfaces with reaches as far as 40km and OC-48 and 2Gb FibreChannel interfaces with reaches as far as 15km. All of the transceivers conform to SFP Multi-Source Agreement and support a standard temperature range of -5 to +75 degrees Celsius, an extended temperature range of -10 to +85 degrees Celsius, or an industrial temperature range of -40 to +85 degrees Celsius.

Hand-Held Fusion Splicer from Furukawa

furukawasplicer.jpgFurukawa America Inc. has announced  "industry’s first" hand-held core alignment fusion splicer designed for Fiber-to-the-Home (FTTh/FTTx) and LAN installations as well as trunk line installations. Developed by The Furukawa Electric Co., the FITEL® S177A is the most compact, lightweight core alignment splicer available today.

At half the size of a conventional unit, the FITEL S177A delivers the automated functionality and accuracy necessary for conventional backbone or long-haul installations along with the portability and speed needed for challenging field installations such as FTTh, FTTx and LAN.

Optical Backscatter Reflectometer from Luna Technologies

Photodiodes from Vitesse for FTTH and Fibre Channel

vitesse.jpgVitesse Semiconductor Corp. (NASDAQ: VTSS) today announced a new line of photodiode products for the resurgent optical communications market. The first two products in the family, the VSC7750 and VSC7780, are designed for use in the optical receiver side of both the Small Form Factor (SFF) and its pluggable counterpart (SFP). These modules are being used in the growing Ethernet and multi-rate Fibre Channel markets as well as for Fiber-to-the-Home (FTTH) applications. The VSC7750 and VSC7780 provide a cost model not achieved to date in the industry while enabling customers to reduce design cycles by as much as 14 weeks when combined with Vitesse’s proven reference designs. These products support both long (1310-1550 nm) and short (850 nm) optical wavelength applications, respectively.

Pulsed Laser Diode Current Source from ILX

laserdiodepulsedcurrentsource3840B.jpgILX Lightwave has announced the introduction of the LDP-3840B, a precision pulsed current source developed specifically for pulsing low and medium power laser diodes. The LDP-3840B replaces the original LDP-3840/03 and is now CE marked.

The pulsed current source was designed for clean pulses at laser diode load levels with ILX trademark laser diode protection features delivering up to 3A of low noise current with fast rise times and low overshoot.
