Kaiser Optical Systems announced today that it has developed a proprietary high throughput (HT) process for volume phase holographic gratings for telecom and other applications. The new process achieves very high levels of film index modulation while maintaining low levels of noise and scatter. The HT process will provide customers with an unmatched combination of high diffraction efficiency, high dispersion, low polarization dependent loss (PDL), and broad spectral bandwidth.

The HT process gratings will enable telecom customers to design more compact, efficient and better performing systems than ever before.. These gratings have immediate applicability for reconfigurable add-drop multiplexers (ROADMs) and wavelength selective switches as well as for MUX/DEMUXes, optical spectrum analyzers, optical channel monitors and tunable lasers. HT gratings are available in custom made form factors and dispersions and can be designed to each customer’s exact application with no large NRE charges.
