Xtellus, a supplier of dynamic DWDM solutions, has announced it is introducing a Micro Wavelength Blocker, the Wavelength Blocker 7000, optimized for deployment in Cable MSO optical networks and Metro telecommunications networks.
The wavelength blocker is the engine for reconfigurable optical add/drop multiplexers (R-OADMs) and is the only dynamic wavelength selective technology deployed in volume in operational DWDM systems. Offering access to all wavelengths for drops and adds the wavelength blocker is a solution to meet the requirement of economically adding and dropping any number of wavelengths at a node.
The WB 7000 features the smallest form factor of any commercially available wavelength blocker at a price point that will drive large scale deployment of dynamic DWDM networks. It provides low insertion loss and high extinction required for metro deployments, and supports up to 64 channels which is the most for any type of wavelength selective technology. Using Xtellus’ liquid crystal optical processor the WB 7000 has no moving parts and is engineered for an operational lifetime exceeding twenty-five years.
Mr. Jonathan Homa, Xtellus Vice President of Business Development, elaborated, “We have been hearing two messages consistently from our customers, that they need a product to provide R-OADMs in rapidly growing Metro telecommunications and Cable MSO optical networks, and that above all it needs to be low cost. This product demonstrates our ability to stay well ahead of the cost/performance curve and deliver a superior wavelength blocker solution the market needs and can afford.”
