TriAccess Technologies

October 3, 2005 – TriAccess Technologies, Inc., today announced that it has received initial orders for its new line of high sensitivity radio frequency integrated circuits (RFICs) designed for use in telecommunications Fiber-to-the-Home (FTTH) applications.  Samples of the FTTH 6200 series RFIC are available for order today and volume shipments are expected in the first half of 2006.
“As the telecom and cable TV industries compete for consumer’s triple play business (voice, video, data), a clash of major proportions is creating a great opportunity for well positioned equipment vendors to sell products tailored for FTTH, cable hybrid fiber coax and WiMax systems,” says Chris Day, President and Chief Technology Officer for TriAccess Technologies, Inc.  “Our new FTTH products dramatically reduce costs in the Optical Network Terminal (ONT), the interface box on the side of the house.”
The company has been in stealth mode until today as its team of industry veterans developed a series of superior quality IC-based solutions that can be manufactured at less cost, provide low distortion and noise while – at the same time — delivering high sensitivity signal amplification.
“The quality and volume of information you can send through a network depends on performance, rate, reach and cost factors.  By enhancing RF hardware, you can lower the capital cost to deliver broadband services.  Our products improve network performance by cutting the noise in half compared to current competitive solutions. This allows carriers to reach more customers at less cost,” Day added.
The TriAccess family of IC devices is designed to reduce unwanted noise in the ONT to as low as 2.5pA/rtHz level (2.5 picoamps per root Hertz).  Most solutions in use today add as much as 5.0pA/rtHz and above and can be difficult to manufacture.  TriAccess has filed patents on its high sensitivity technology, which allows noise improvement without degradation in other performance areas such as distortion.

In FTTH applications, TriAccess’ products are expected to reduce the cost of the ONT attached to each house by up to $20, and possibly more. It can also increase the effective range of optical signals from four-to-six additional kilometers beyond the range of systems today.

“There are several applications for our products beyond FTTH. For example, one device under development is intended to double the number of users that can share Gigabit Passive Optical Networks (GPON),” said Brian Bauer, Vice President for Marketing.  “With today’s preferred Telco video delivery system, RF overlay, our solution enables a 64-way split to accommodate users connected to an Optical Line Terminal (OLT) port at the serving central office, whereas today only 32 users can share such a port. Our future plan also includes products to alleviate the cable TV return path bottleneck, and RF power amplifiers for emerging wireless applications where signal clarity and power efficiency are critical in reducing capital and operating costs.”

TriAccess Technologies, Inc., founded in May of 2003, is a fabless video semiconductor company that is privately funded.  Investors include a group of telecommunications industry veterans led by Telecom Valley pioneer Don Green, a founder of Advanced Fibre Communications, and Eric Rossin, a founder of Alantro Communications.  TriAccess has filed three patent applications and two additional provisional applications for its proprietary solutions.  The company’s RFIC products will be cost-effectively fabricated off-shore and will form the basis for additional TriAccess solutions serving a wide range of telecommunications industry markets.
